I'm hot on the trail to purchase the adorable Weber Baby Q grill for this weekend. Anyone have any awesome grill ideas? I was thinking about a nice grilled salad (grill halves of endive, baby bok choy, and radicchio, toss with dressing), grilled shrimp with a side of papaya salsa, of course a good steak or two, maybe some grilled pizza, and grilled pineapple with some sort of dipping sauce for dessert! Whew, I'm tired already...is it possible to grill almost anything?

Fri, May 28, 2004 - 6:38 AMSoftshell crabs while they're in season!
I don't know if this little weber has room under the dome, but I like to indirect-grill a whole chicken (Bell & Evans, Murrays or some other good freerange--scrue perdue) put the coals off to the side, put a foil dish underneath the bird to catch the fat, and cover.
And fer gosh sakes do not use Matchlight, that stuff is nasty. Get a chimney.
Enjoy! -

Fri, May 28, 2004 - 6:59 AMOh this little Weber is a gas grill. I live in an apartment with a wooden back deck, so no charcoal for me, lest the landlord and the policeman come knock down my door. :(
Softshell crabs sound good though, yummmm. -

Fri, May 28, 2004 - 8:53 AMI wonder if LL will flip if you throw some mesquite chips in there for flavor...? I dunno, I'm a caveman when it comes to grilling. -

Sat, May 29, 2004 - 7:48 PMI made some grilled jumbo shrimp and a sirloin steak for a friend. The grill worked pretty well. You can't do a serious sear or char, but it cooks. -

Tue, June 1, 2004 - 8:34 AMFor the sweet corn, I like making a "faux risotto" using corn fresh off the cob and finely cubed potato simmered in some chicken broth and dressed with a little parmesan and parsley.
I'll have to try the ribs next... -

Re: Grillin ideas?
Tue, June 1, 2004 - 9:21 AMI love my grill because it's FAST and simple. Charcoal is great, but I just don't have much patience for it. I'll get all fussy in the kitchen another time-prolly in the fall and winter. I go simple in the summer months. I go to Costco and buy the mega-packages of meat then come home, make 2 or 3 marinades and freeze the meat in the marinades immediately. By the time the frozen package has thawed for use, it's ready to go on the grill. Then I toss some zuchinni/peppers/sweet onion in my grill basket with olive oil and lemon juice. Whamo! Dinner.

Re: Grillin ideas?
Wed, June 2, 2004 - 5:59 AMdon't forget if you don't want to grill you can always "seal" grill something... I did this just the other day with Salmon... In Foil I seasoned the fish then sealed it by folding up the edges and rolling them in... then just placed them on the grill for 1/2... tender, sweet and no mess...
